Latvian GDP growth – the highest in the European Union

The Latvian Statistics Office "Centralā statisticas pārvalde" has published GDP growth data for the first quarter of 2012, which shows that the Latvian economy grew by 6.9%. The index was revised upwards by 0.1% from estimated first quarter GDP growth. This fact officially makes Latvia's GDP growth the highest in the EU. Quarterly growth was also revised upwards and now stands at 1.1%. Among the biggest growth drivers is growing retail, which accounts for 17% of GDP and is growing by 8.1%. Construction, which contributes 4% to GDP, is up 28.5%, suggesting the sector is finally recovering from the recession. GDP growth has led to a 19.3% increase in tax revenue. This is good ground to start a business and open a company in Latvia.
