A teenager who was accused of murdering his mum has been found dead at a hospital's mental health unit. Rowan Thompson, 18, was due to face trial on Wednesday in relation to the murder of his mum and died while in custody on October 3.His mum, Joanna Thompson, 50, was found dead in her home on July 1 last year, with fatal injuries to the neck. Following her death, Rowan was detained under Section 2 of the Mental Health Act, before being assessed by psychiatrists. He had denied murder, but previously pleaded guilty to the mother-of-two's manslaughter, reportsA court heard on Friday Thompson died at the Gardener Unit at Prestwich Hospital in Bury on October 3. Police were said to be awaiting the results of toxicology tests to establish a cause of death. Greater Manchester Police, however, have confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious. A detective told the court Thompson was under 15-minute observations at the unit and staff noticed he had not moved in his bed, at around 12.30pm on October 3. They attempted CPR, the court heard, and he was taken to North Manchester General Hospital, where he was formerly pronounced dead at 2.20pm.
