p>Blocky builders everywhere are undergoing major changes.

/p>

p>Even though the much anticipated Super Duper Graphics Pack for Minecraft was pulled but there's a new official graphical update for the blocky building game. While graphical improvements are among the most popular Minecraft mods, wouldn't it be nice if the game was designed to look more professional? Well, that's what Minecraft RTX can do.

/p>

p>Minecraft RTX is an official Nvidia-developed patch for Minecraft that adds real-time DXR raytracing to the Windows 10 version of the game. The entire game has been designed to, in Nvidia's words "refit" by implementing path tracing that dramatically alters the way light, reflections and shadows work inside the game engine. Given how adaptable Minecraft's sandboxes that are procedurally generated and how flexible they are, it's the perfect place to test the latest technology.

p>If you don't have any concerns about fancy lighting, Minecraft is still one of the best games for laptops to play on low-spec machines.

/p>

p>Here's everything you should be aware of about Minecraft RTX.

/p>

p>Minecraft RTX is out now

/p>

p>Minecraft with RTX has been removed from beta on December 8th in 2020. If you own a GeForce? RTX graphics card you could give the RTX-enabled Minecraft to try for yourself.

/p>

p>Here are the Minecraft requirements for the RTX system.

/p>

p>OS: Windows 10 64-bit GPU: DirectX hardware ray tracing capable GPUs such as NVIDIA GeForce?(r) RTX 20 Series and higher, and AMD Radeon(tm) RX 6000 Series and higher CPU: Intel Core i5 (or equivalent) RAM 8 GB RAM Minecraft version: 1.16.200 or higher How does ray tracing affect Minecraft?

/p>

p>We played Minecraft RTX at PAX Australia in October, and it was so great it made us want to die and be reincarnated inside Minecraft. Check out our thoughts.

/p>

p>The majority of Minecraft's appearance is affected by Nvidia's ray-tracing implementation. Lighting is the most important upgrade. By taking advantage of real time global illumination, the direction and brightness of the sun will affect all surfaces and shadows. In a game like Minecraft where the world's environment can change drastically in a single moment, it's an impressive improvement.

/p>

p>The same applies to emissive block, like glowstones and lava and also new emissive blocks which will be included in the Minecraft RTX update. https://strongcraft.org/ </p>

p>Real-time reflections will be added in the RTX update, meaning that all reflective surfaces, including glass and water reflect precisely the surroundings surrounding them. Real-time global illumination combined with real-time reflections result in "specular reflective'. This basically means that light of any color can be seen on reflective surfaces in the vicinity, even opaque reflective ones.

/p>

p>The image below provides an excellent example of this: note how the emissive, colored disco blocks are affecting colours reflected in the adjacent reflective surfaces in beige. It's beautiful, ain't it?

/p>

p>But don't just believe me when I say this, you need to witness it in action.

/p>

p>Watch the official Minecraft RTX gameplay video (opens in new tab)

/p>

p>The video above was released in concert with the official Minecraft RTX announcement back in August of 2019. As you'll see, the video provides a pretty compelling reason to excited about the update that includes before and after footage showing off real-time global illumination, and how the implementation will truly make those glowstone blocks that emit light sing.

/p>

p>A month later, Nvidia released yet another video (opens in a new tab) showing off Minecraft RTX-this time with the inclusion of its own custom-designed blocks. The majority of them are emissive blocks or reflective ones, and will come bundled with the Minecraft RTX update.

/p>

p>How much will Minecraft RTX cost?

/p>

p>The Minecraft RTX update will be free for all current owners of the Windows 10 edition of Minecraft. Although Microsoft has confirmed (opens in a new tab) that support for ray tracing in Minecraft will not be exclusive to Nvidia cards, at the time of writing Nvidia's RTX series of cards are the best method to experience Minecraft RTX. They're also not cheap.
