p>Lego the maker of plastic bricks, is expanding its teams of software developers rapidly to meet the increasing demand for virtual experiences.

/p>

p>Lego is rapidly expanding its software engineering teams as it shifts from plastic bricks to bits and bytes, but is it able to compete with top tech companies for the best talent?

/p>

p>The Danish company is investing heavily to transform into more technologically-savvy following the exploding popularity of online brick-building games like Roblox and Microsoft's Minecraft. https://lindatea30.werite.net/post/2022/09/15/WRUP:-All-DPS-Players-are-Sharks-Edition </p>

/p>

p>Seeing the missed opportunity, Lego announced a partnership with the videogame maker Epic in April this year. The two companies will work together to create new experiences in the metaverse, blurring lines between digital and physical building experiences.

/p>

p>"The partnership with Epic is our first step into the metaverse, and there's a big product piece there to develop and a technology piece to architect for that," Atul Bhardwaj, the group's chief of technology and digital at Lego Group told InfoWorld?.

/p>

p>To tackle these opportunities head on, Lego is looking to expand its in-house software engineering department with the aim of triple its digital team to 1,800 by the end of 2023. The team will be spread across offices in Copenhagen and Billund in Denmark, London, and Shaghai.

p>Lego Digital Transformation powered by Lego

/p>

p>Bhardwaj explains how Lego can be more product-driven and engineering-led than it is today.

/p>

p>"I look at being product-led, as opposed to project-led," he said, which means "defining the problems you have to solve as the digital products you design and build."

/p>

p>In terms of making Lego Group more engineering-led, Bhardwaj is keen to concentrate on the craft and architecture. "What is the most important engineering skill do you require to be able to build world-class, high-performance systems?" He asks.

/p>

p>Of course software engineers will play an important role however, the new digital recruits will be complemented by designers, product managers, and technical program managers as the digital team expands.

/p>

p>Implementing a cloud-native technology platform

/p>

p>These goals must be supported by strong digital architecture. Bhardwaj believes that Lego will create systems that can be scaled and operate 24 hours a day and are open, flexible, easy to connect to, and are "scalable and operational all the time" according to Bhardwaj.

/p>

p>Lego is currently working on an all-encompassing platform for data and updating its infrastructure to enable it to be more flexible and cloud-native. Lego hosts 54% of its workloads in the cloud compared to just 1% 18 months ago. The company has ambitions to reach 100% in cloud services in the near future.

/p>

p>Bhardwaj stated that "We are looking for speed and responsiveness that's what the cloud provides us."

/p>

p>Lego Group employs a wide range of frameworks and languages that range from Unity for certain of the latest consumer-facing products as well as React for Lego.com, and SAP ABAP for back-office systems. "We've kind of got everything," Bhardwaj said. "In the data platform, we are using Scala and Python. What's new today is the technology we are using is. If you are an engineer who is interested in an advanced tech stack, then you'll find it here."

/p>

p>Connecting to the Lego story

/p>

p>Lego and software have been a constant companion for a long time Many engineers love building physical models in their spare time when they seek to escape their workstations.

/p>

p>"Every person I talk to has an Lego story to tell," Bhardwaj said. http://guidehawk45.jigsy.com/entries/general/The-8bit-Processor-Built-into-Minecraft-can-Run-its-Own-Games "There is connective tissue in there."

/p>

p>Modular software components have been long marketed for their Lego-like capabilities, which can "snap onto" other components. This idea is now extended to how Lego creates software through loosely coupled systems as well as extensive use of APIs.

/p>

p>"When I speak about great architecture, it's like Lego bricks. https://www.openlearning.com/u/bekkerklemmensen-ri8a39/blog/FatherOfTechnobladeYoutubeMinecraftStarSaysHisSonHasDied We can build something, then take it apart and then rebuild it again. "That's the kind of thing we're trying to create here," Bhardwaj stated.
